CubScout Toolbox Plans

Image
For this Bear tool box I planned on  doing bulk cuts with a miter saw.  This design will allow for 1 tool box to be made from a single 8foot, 1x6in  board. I set my saw guides to cut 18 inches and made 2 cuts off each board for the sides of the tool box.  I then set it for 16 3/8 inch to cut 1 bottom piece off each board.  I then cut a 24 1/8 in board from the remainder.  This last piece will ultimately be cut into two pieces by the scouts.  Using the miter saw I cut the corners off this 24 1/8 in board and made a partial cut in the middle of the board.  I want to scout to saw but have a guide and a kerf to start sawing from.  (12) 1 1/4 inch screws are required for assembly,  Glue is optional but preferred. Cost is about $10 in materials.

Splitting Popcorn Kernel into multiple smaller roles

Image
Our pack has been struggling with finding a Popcorn Kernel, partly due to the huge amount of work required. Our Kernel last year was responsible for nearly $50,000 in sales and lead us to be the leader for our district. As such, we are trying to distribute the tasks in the role to a multi-member committee to evenly distribute the immense workload.. We are documenting the plan for this committee here: How we sell: Show and Sell Donations (need better Signs) Online Take orders Jobs: Pack Kernel New season Build Schedule of events Schedule regular team meetings Schedule important dates Training Storefront registrations Popcorn pickup Pack popcorn training and registration night Add App Manager to Trails-End Order prizes Sales Management Examine last years sales: Set sales goal Plan initial Take orders Order best guess and distribute to den kernels Validate that Pack Bank account is properly connected Check that Trails-end has right details

Camping your first time can be scary to prepare for, but with a few tips, trial and error on what works for you and your family, it can be pretty easy. I am going to make some recommendations here for the Scouting family that believes they will be and active participant and eventually transition from Cub Scouts to boy Scouts.  Also, my goals will be to minimize cost and minimize redundant gear across multiple use cases. Family/Car Campout gear: Tent: 6+ person tent = $150 - $500 or 4 person tent = $50 - $150 Lighting: Headlamps and Lightweight lantern = $10 - $50 Sleeping bag: 2 lbs + 20 degree + synthetic or water resistant down filling = $100 - $400 Sleeping bag liner: 8 oz. = $25 - $60 Chair: 2 lbs Backpacking chair = $30 - $15 Table: Any folding table that fits in your car = $30 - $150 Mess kit: light weight cup + Sea-To-Summit Summit bowl XL + GSI Outdoors Spoon + any Fork = $40 Knife: Multitool = $40 - $100 Bottles: 1 Liter + BPA Free plastic = $8 - $20
